Yes: The skin will frequently peel following upper extremity surgery since you may experience significant swelling afterward. Once the swelling subsides, the skin may shed.

See your doctor: Symptoms and concerns like these mandate a thorough evaluation by your doctor.  Only after such an evaluation, which may include labs and radiographic examinations, can he/she let you know what's going on and how best to help you.

why is my skin peeling after surgery?

More Information: It depends on where you are experiencing this problem. Most times, i find my patients have peeling around the incision site where surgical glue has been applied. This is actually the glue that is peeling off, and not the skin. Other times, the skin is peeling due to a reaction to the tape. Removing the tape and keeping the area clean and dry will help.

Please see your surgeon as soon as possible.

Not to worry: Skin is always forming to replace what wears off naturally. When a cast is on the wrist, you are not using the fingers as much as normal so the skin builds up and sloughs. This should resolve when you get the cast off. When skin and dermal debris build up it also may contribute to itching you may feel.

Sub cutaneous: Bleeding, post op- go back ; see the surgeon who preformed the surgery- probably not to worry just healing process in your case, .

Ultrasound : I suggest an ultrasound to see if there is a scar or thrombosis vein causing this finding. It would seem to be highly unlikely that after all this time a foreign body was behind this. Good to check it out anyway

Yes and no: Your use of the word "excessive" implies it is not normal, and so if your concerned about it I would let your surgeon know.  That being said, some degree of skin peeling is normal when skin is covered by a bandage or cast as the covering of the skin prevents the usual loss of the epidermis the usual and more gradual way.  The skin prep itself that was used during surgery can also contribute.

Gravity: When you are lying on your face, your retina is on the upper surface of your eyeball. If there is any air introduced into the eye during the procedure it will float to the top, and if there is any small amounts of bleeding, the red cells will fall away from the retina. There is some controversy over the need for face down, and some surgeons forego it -- please follow your surgeon's recommendations
