please explain if it is safe and effective to inject lidocaine gel?

Accepted Answer

No: The Lidocaine gels are formulated to be placed on surfaces (skin) not for injections and therefore it is likely not to work if injected. The use is off label  as you inquire, and i never heard of a md doing it. If injected it is possible to cause more harm than good.

Bleeding: It could be related to hitting a vessel during the injection. You could discuss this with your treating physician.

estradiol hrt (oral, injected, gel and patch) cause a burning sensation on my scalp. severity seems to be dose dependent, but even very low doses are now bothersome. no visible signs of irritation. what might this reaction be?

: It is a very unusual side effect of estradiol so I wonder if it is truly related. It is not risky to stop this replacement therapy for a month or so and see if that symptom goes away. If it's a true side effect, your doctor can figure another way to help you. By the way, what is the indication of estrogen replacement? Take care.

i have heard that there is a gel that can be injected into the knee to provide cushioning when there is no cartilage left in the knee.  is this effective?  i have been told that i am too young for a knee replacement (i have just turned 40)

Yes: The effectiveness is dependent upon the type of arthritis and extent of the joint involvement. It is also expensive and time limited in terms of its effectiveness requiring further injections down the road. You need to be evaluated by an orthopedist.

my left side of my rt knee is bone on bone.doctor sd he cd do partial knee replacement. it hurts 2 walk. i'm 83 & i really dont wnt operation so he injected me w a gel or chicken shot. it bn 1 week & still pain. does shot take longer than week 2 work?

Narcotic: Fentanyl is very potent synthetic analgetic, known under many commercial names:  sublimaze, actiq, durogesic, duragesic, (fentanyl) fentora, matrifen, haldid, onsolis, and a few others. It is highly lipophilic, which increases its potency. Fentanyl binds ?-opioid g-protein-coupled receptors, which inhibit pain neurotransmitter release. Side effects: respiratory depression, chest rigidity.

Pain relief: Fentanyl works on pain receptors.  Its primary use is to alleviate pain.  How fast it works depends on how it is given (IV, IM, transdermal).  I'll assume you are referring to IV.  Works in 1-5 mins, lasts ~ 45-90 mins.  Some very serious, but expected side effects include slowed or even stopped breathing, low blood pressure, sedation.  Expect excellent pain relief with Fentanyl when used properly

Maybe . . . : Any narcotic or opioid used chronically can lead to sexual dysfunction from hypogonadism since long term narcotic use can lead to pituiatry dysfunction which decreases lh & fsh, thus lower t & sperm production.
