Narcotic: Fentanyl is very potent synthetic analgetic, known under many commercial names: sublimaze, actiq, durogesic, duragesic, (fentanyl) fentora, matrifen, haldid, onsolis, and a few others. It is highly lipophilic, which increases its potency. Fentanyl binds ?-opioid g-protein-coupled receptors, which inhibit pain neurotransmitter release. Side effects: respiratory depression, chest rigidity.

Synthetic Narcotic: Fentanyl is a synthetic narcotic analgesic that is approximately 50-100 times more potent than morphine. It has a fast onset and relatively short duration of action and is usually administered intravenously for anesthesia. It is also available as skin patch, lollipop, and oral spray. It is widely used for general anesthesia and for conscious sedation (in combination with other medications).
