Finishing Root canal: Most root canal fillings  take about an hour on any tooth to finish  but a molar having more canals takes about  90 minutes. Be advised , a core filling is still needed, and a crown or cap later  to protect the tooth during chewing.

Root Canal: After a pulpotomy, the sooner the better to have the root canal completed. You should be alright for a few weeks but see if you can get in earlier if they have a change in their schedule.

Not long: Normally i rec less than 2 months to my patients.  Some have gone a year with out prob but others have re-infected after less than 2 months.  The sooner you get it done the better.  The pain can come back.

Partial vs. Complete: A pulpotomy (usually, but not always done on a baby tooth) involves removal of the pulp tissue in the upper part of the tooth and treatment with medications to calm the tooth. A root canal involves removal of all pulpal tissue from the tooth , even down in the root structure ( hence "root canal") and filling with inert material to save a tooth.

Soon after one week.: The pulpotomy procedure is not intended to be long term.  It is a short term fix.  I would obtain definitive care as soon as i could following the first week after the pulpotomy.

A few wks: A pulpotomy is a temporary measure to get you out of pain until the root canal is performed. It is also sometimes performed when the dr. Does not have time to do a complete root canal of if the case is complex and needs an endodontist to perform the endodontics. It mus always be followed by a complete root canal before infection occurs or gets worse.

Have faith in your dentist. He/she is only trying to treat your problems and 
prevent you from loosing your teeth.

This : This can vary depending on the extent of the crown lenghtening and your body's ability to heal.  In my office we usually allow a minimum of 8 weeks for the tissue to heal before taking a final impression.

Ada.xcom: The american dental association or the academy of general dentists, have websites that explain many aspects of dewntistry such as what you ask. Basically the dentist removes the nerve from the tooth and fills the void with a material and seals the tooth against infection. It is a painless procedure  today and usually takes about one hour for a bd certified endodontist.

Prevent leackage: Your tooth may get reinfected because there are chances that in remaining spaces dead tissue and bacteria is growing and you are living with infection in the mouth.
