i just had an extraction then implant screw and healing cap placed at tooth #4 site. about how long would a person wait until a one unit nesbit can be worn (along the smile line) prior to implant crown placement?

: If there is no complications or infection than 7-10 days is good. Remember as the area heals there will be shrinkage of the bone and gums so the Nesbit will loosen up a little since you will have to wait a number of months until final crown is placed.

if i get a dental implant for a front tooth, what takes the place of the missing space during healing if not having an immediate load or a flipper?

Healing cap: There will be a cover placed over the implant site called a 'healing cap.'  it is essentially a man-hole cover for the gums to protect the implant (and gums) during the healing phase.  If you choose not to use a flipper (during the healing phase) then, for all intents and purposes, you're choosing to have a space in your smile until the crown is completed.

i was in a car accident, lost a tooth & broke the bone. i went to an oral surgeon to get bone grafting done & to get my other tooth pulled out.im informed i need tmj treatment before braces, before actually getting the implants. will brace fix tmj?

: Orthodontics can certainly help alleviate any TMJ symptoms. Depending on your bite and how malpositioned your teeth are, orthodontics may be indicated to provide room for the implant and prosthetic tooth.

: You have a fresh wound that is healing. Avoid traumatizing the area until sutures are removed and the area has healed. These post op directions should be addressed with your treating surgeon.

i have to have 2 tooth remove and i want to have 2 dental implants.  how long do i have to wait for the healing process so i can have implants. thanks?

Varies...: Depending on which teeth, pathology, amount of bone, etc. In certain circumstances the implants can be immediately placed, while other times a bone graft is required and it will take three to six months for the site to fill in with vital bone. Since each situation is different, no one answer can apply to you. Ask your dentist or oral surgeon re: your surgery.

mitral valve repaired 9 yrs ago with annuloplasty ring (prosthetic material) would like tooth implants my heart surgeon said it's high risk for endocarditis.a mitral-redo surgeon said no risk as ring is part of my body covered in healing .options?

: Risk of bacterial endocarditis with any prosthetic material in the heart is present but there is no contraindication for tooth implant. You can take prophylactic antibiotic, pre and post procedure, as recommended by American Heart Association and your dentist well knows about it.

Crown vs implant: A dental implant is a titanium root replacement and this is used to replace a missing tooth.  A crown is made on an existing tooth when there is weakened tooth structure form decay, fracture, or wear and a strong  root remaining.  It will provide the strength needed for normal function like eating and speaking.  If your existing tooth is healthy enough you may be able to have a crown. see dentist.

Tooth Covering: A crown, also referred to as a cap, is a covering that is placed over a tooth. Crowns are placed to protect a tooth from failure, such as breaking, or to replace parts of a missing tooth. A crown is permanently cemented to the tooth. If the crown falls off it can easily be recemented by a dentist.

Depends: If is not an esthetic area it is best to use nothing at all. In the esthetic zone a temporary abutment and crown with no bite on it can be used in some situations.

if i get a gold crown and the tooth hurts, can i receive an implant using the same gold crown?

Accepted Answer

No: If your tooth hurts, you may not need to lose it.  Root canal therapy, done through the crown, may eliminate the pain and solve the problem.  If the tooth is lost, then the existing crown will not be usable since the tooth on which it once fit is not the same shape at the gumline as the implant and thus its fit will be unacceptable.
