Usually not painful: In-office or in OR balloon sinuplasty is performed with minimal discomfort with appropriate pain medications and local anesthesia. Recovery time is shorter (1-3 days) with  balloon sinuplasty than traditional sinus surgery, and I personally do this procedure in-office with topical anesthesia, local lidocaine, and oral pain medications to minimize any potential pain.

what is the difference between endoscopic sinus surgery and a balloon sinuplasty?  (for chronic sinusitis)

Sinus Surgery: Balloon sinuplasty - minimally invasive technique, uses a small balloon inflated to widen blocked passages, generally has less bleeding and shorter recovery time.

Endoscopic sinus surgery - uses a small camera to visually examined the sinuses. Tiny surgical instruments inserted to remove obstructive tissues, does not require any incision as the whole procedure is performed through the nostrils.

can i have septoplasty, turb reduct, sinus balloon surgery while i have a sinus infection? wbc = 15. abx not helping.

See below: It is not a good idea to operate on an infected site. It is likely to disseminate the infection. Please consult your doctor to see if you need a different antibiotic.

In-Office Balloon: Balloon sinuplasty is a procedure for chronic sinusitis patients who are not responding well to medication. Unlike other surgical procedures used to treat sinusitis, with balloon sinuplasty, the surgeon does not remove bone or tissue from the nasal area.  The recovery period is usually only a few days, compared to a few weeks.  I perform the procedure in-office with local or twilight anesthesia.

i just had balloon sinuplasty, dr.collected the mucus and had it tested i have pseudomonas in my sphenoid sinus, will leviquin get rid of this?

Need sensitivity: Pseudomonas is not a common cause of sinusitis.  But if the culture is valid, you need a sensitivity test to identify which antibiotic is most appropriate.  If your ENT doctor has sent the mucus to the laboratory for bacterial culture, the lab will routinely identify the correct antibiotics in vitro that will kill the bacteria.  Ask your surgeon.

have ethmoid sinus issue's, as well as other sinus issue's ct confirmed. doc wants to do balloon sinuplasty. i've read that this procedure does nothing with he ethmoid. is this correct?

: Your doc may do this procedure with other sinuses but not the ethmoid sinus which usually requires endoscopic surgery. Please discuss the objective thoroughly with your ENT doctor.

ent wants to do the functional endospic surgery where they remove bone and tissue. i have nasal polyps too and a deviated speratum. can i have the balloon sinuplasty, a deviated speratum and nasal polyps surgery separately? i dont want 2 remove bone?

: I don’t know, but my thoughts are as follows.  Ask ENT how much bone has to be removed.  Also, weigh your options.  Do you want to go through three different procedures.  Generally, in performing surgical procedures, surgeons want to be as least invasive as possible.  So, understand that some bone might need to be removed to resolve your issues.

recent ct scan show mucosal thickening in ethmoid sinus.  have balloon sinuplasty scheduled, but curious....symptoms onset coincided with starting to use a fitibit.  any possibility that they are related (i.e. medial nerve irritant)?  or coincidence?

Detective work: To decide whether or not facial sinus symptoms are related to getting a Fitbit or merely coincidental requires detective work. What changed in one's life after getting the Fitbit? If one started exercising with others, that would mean more exposures to potential upper respiratory infections. If one started walking or running outdoors, that means more exposures to airborne allergens and irritants.

what is the risk of adverse reaction from fentanyl/versed in egd if i tolerated it during oral surgery and vicodin/valium during balloon sinuplasty?

Low risk: There is less chance of an adverse reaction if you have already tolerated the drugs before. You didn't know how they will affect you before the oral surgery, now you know.

May help: If all your symptoms are caused by sinus disease then your surgical procedure mey help.
