Codeine only 1 day: The short half-life of Codeine in serum is only 2-4 hours. It takes approximately 6 half lives for a drug to be eliminated from your system. 4*6/24=1 days. The Codeine will stay in your system for about 1 days. Take this opportunity and stay clean.

No - so don't.: 60mg in one dose is the safe max. You can take this as often as 4X per day - but don't make the time span too close. You can become unresponsive/unconscious. That's dangerous. Please be careful. People have died.

Six hours: I suggest six hours because the half-life of Codeine is somewhere between one and three hours. That means that half of your dose of Codeine is metabolized in somewhere between one and three hours and half of the residual is metabolized in another three hours. Usually in the young healthy person i would expect the metabolism to be a lot quicker than any older person.
So by six hours in a 14-year-ol.

my daughter was given codeine while in hospital yesterday but i don't know what dose to give her now. please help?

Would need more info: Without knowing her weight, why you are giving it, and what form the codeine is in, it would be dangerous to speculate. For kids, if you are using codeine with acetaminophen liquid (Tylenol codeine elixer) you can generally safely give 1 teaspoon for every 22 lbs of body weight every 8 hrs up to a max of 4 teaspoons if they weigh 88lbs or more. Start with half dose to see how sleepy they get.

i had a partial thyroidectomy 3 days ago in a lot of pain my gp told me to double the dose of codeine to 120mg every 4 hrs, is that ok?

Pain where?: If in the neck see a thyroidologist. If just any other pain for which you were given Codeine you can take it whether or not you are taking thyroid medication.

Wine: Codeine and alcohol don't mix well so please don't drink when you are taking pain releivers

Speak to prescriber: according to drugs.com, sertraline can reduce the effectiveness of codiene at time necessitating and increased dose of pain med.
Definitely something you would want to discuss directly with prescriber, no concern for serotonin syndrome.

2,000 mg is max: Have you ever tried Fiorinal (aspirin butalbital and caffeine) for your headaches?  It's a combination of aspirin, caffein, and butalbital.  In my experience, Fiorinal (aspirin butalbital and caffeine) is much more effective than the combination you're taking.  Acetaminophen is highly toxic to the liver.  Codeine can actually cause headaches in some people.

: The half life of a drug is the term used to describe when 1/2 has been metabolized and left the body. For this drug it is about 3 hours. After 4 half lives it has essentially left the system. Sixty three hours is long past when it would be detected on a simple urine drug screening.

a doctor prescribed my 5 year old son codeine / promethazine at 5ml doses. should i be concerned?

High range: If your kid is big for age this is at the higher end of the recommended amount and usually reserved for kids over 6. Most at this age get by on half this amount,  if needed.  Monitoring the kid for drowsiness and sedation are important. I prescribe this med occasionally but only a few times per year. Most kids can benefit from available otc meds.
