Yes: Yes you can and encouraged to do so. After you brush the thrush away, you tongue may look rather red.That is normal.  After the thrush infection is gone, throw away your toothbrush and get a new one.

Not by itself: Candida fungi are normally in low numbers in the mouth, but can overgrow forming white, cheesy patches that may bleed. It is associated with taking antibiotics that kill the good bacteria, stress or immune suppression from various diseases & medications such as steroids. Eating yogurt with live cultures or rinsing and swallowing pro-biotic mixtures with lacto-bacillus can restore a normal balance.

i think my bf has thrush he has a thick white coating on tongue and when he tries to brush it off he has patches of red and a little bleeding?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: It would be unusual for a healthy young male to have lingual thrush. I suspect that the white coating is not a yeast infection and is not pathological. White patches are often seen on the throat surface with oral yeast infections. Have him examined by an otolaryngologist if concerns continue.

i have enlarged taste buds today i was brushing my tongue yesterday to get all the white off i'm thinking i may have thrush on my tongue and also hiv ?

Tongue taste buds: See your dentist or an oral surgeon. Many patients mistake vallate papilla near the back of the tongue for lesions or 'enlargements'. That whitish coating may be thrush if you've had an infection and antibiotic therapy lately. But it may just need brushing off. Only you can determine if you may have HIV, depending on your intimacy with partners who are infected. Get tested.

i get thrush on my tongue if i haven't brushed my teeth yet or if i haven't eaten in while.my mom says i was born with it.what is it and can i fix it?

Thrush?: Thrush is a fungal infection and not related to eating or not eating.  One is not born with it.  You might have a coated tongue, lichen planus, or somethng else.  For now, start to use a tongue scraper once a day and see if that can solve the problem.  You also need to see a dentist to have it evaluated for a proper diagnosis and treatment if necessary.

my tongue looks white. gets worse after eating but not sore.i brush with baking soda and still a little white can't get all of it off.  is this thrush?

Could be.: Oral candidiasis is more common in diabetics, so you need to be checked for it.  But there are lots of other causes of white tongue, so you need to consult with a doctor or dentist just to be sure it is nothing more serious.

White tongue causes: The tongue is known to have many variations with pigmenting, size, appearance, &amp; not always due to disease. Causes of a tongue that looks white include: lichen planus (responds to steroids), white sponge nevus (familial, benign, permanent), smoker's leukoplakia (2% risk of cancer, needs biopsy), hairy leukoplakia (due to epsteinbarr virus), warts (due to papillomavirus), "thrush" (rx antifungals).

i have a cold sore on top of my lip. if i brush  my teeth and used it to scrape my tongue  is there a possibility of spreading the virus to my mouth right before i had the sore i might've had thrush?

Probably not: And you give no indication of having thrush.

if taking inhaler steroids and washing out mouth and spitting, brush teeth ect to prevent thrush. what can you take to rinse out throat of the steroids ? aloe juice?

: Some find that brushing the teeth after each use of a steroid inhaler does a good job of preventing oral thrush and voice changes.

endoscopy showed normal esophagus but esophageal brushing/smear culture showed non-albicans candida growth? is it possible to have esophageal candidiasis without white lesions or inflammation seen in biopsy?

: Candida whether albicans or non albicans are part of the gut flora so it is possible to culture it because it is a colonizer rather than a pathogen. It is when there is overgrowth and because of change in flora pattern that it could cause disease and the white patches.
