It is associated with taking antibiotics that kill the good bacteria, stress or immune suppression from various diseases & medications such as steroids. Eating yogurt with live cultures or rinsing and swallowing pro-biotic mixtures with lacto-bacillus can restore a normal balance.

No : If it is on your tongue chances are it is also in other areas in y our mouth. Scraping or brushing the white curd like lesion of thrush will leave a raw bleeding surface. You should see your dentist and get the appropriate medication.
