can years of prednisone cause dental problems?

Yes: Yes there is potential though I have not seen full study on this. Prednisone do have side effect of osteoporosis which is thinning of bones. And so it can theoretically affect the bones of the facial structures and the mouth.

i have been on big amounts of steroids for 8 years due to the asbestos inhaled in the navy and has caused a lot of repertory problem. i have been losing my teeth and breaking them if i chew on something very solid. can the prednisone affect my teeth?

: Long term steroids can affect gums, and also deplete bone which supports tooth insertions, making them loose.  See a periodontist for  possible corrective treatment.

only controlled by high dose prednisone. can a dental infection cause hives? stoped all meds x 1 week ago

No: Dental infections do not cause hives elsewhere on the skin. You did not say where your hives are located. It around the mouth it could be an allergic reaction to your toothpaste. If it is any other part of the body then it is unrelated to mouth or teeth.

son got 1st teeth 1 mo ago. they turned grey last wk. had antibiotics 1 1/2 mo ago & prednisone w/albuterol nebulizer 1 mo ago. did that cause this?

Tetracycline. Teeth: Could be but not likely? Are their any genetic conditions to teeth that run in your family? Did you happen to take any antibiotics such a tetracycline, monocycle be, or doxyclince when you were pregnant? This would be more likely to cause grey teeth from tetracycline staining during tooth development. When in doubt follow up with your dentist for a simple evaluatuon

Maybe: But only if you are chronically taking Prednisone for a medical condition.  Then you may have to double the dose before an appointment that may involve surgery or another procedure.  It is best to consult your dentist and physician if you are on prednisone.    Please don't self-medicate.

Speak to your md: It is not usually a problem but if you have been on steroids for a while you may need to adjust the dose before more invasive procedures. Speak to your md regarding any changes and make sure to inform your dentist about all medications you are taking before the procedure.

i have hypopituitarism so should i take extra prednisone before a dental appointment?

No...no: I assume you are taking Prednisone and thyroid medicines, possibly others, on a regular basis because of your hypopituitarism, but these need not change for routine dental work.
With more major surgery/illness, stress dose of Prednisone maybe needed, but otherwise no.

Antibiotics: Antibiotics are not painkillers. If you need antibiotics it means you have an infection and the tooth needs root canal therapy. Prednisone will not solve your problem.  Not treating a tooth that requires root canal therapy will make the problem worse.

currently on 7.5mg of prednisone (started with 10mg 2 weeks ago and tapering weekly), and will be on 5mg in 48 hours when im having dental work requiring anesthesia. should i reschedule appt until after ive completed the taper?

: I would not. I consider that a minimal dose, unlikely to effect anything.
