Exercise: Lack of exercise can certainly cause or make symptoms of depression worse.  If you are noticing a worsening of symptoms after stopping exercise, try exercise that doesn't depend on use your Rt leg- like swimming, rowing, or weight lifting.  If you are having trouble finding answers a personal trainer or physical therapist can certainly put together a program.

May improve but: you may but after 9 years will depend on exercise, neurology medications. Nerve damage causes muscle loss and medications such as gabapentin and pregabulin

end  of dec t-6,7 discectomy fusion.  never pain lower weakness legs.  mri shows ok weak, toe drop foot roll.  can i expect regain walk, done pt?

Weakness: is TREATABLE...speak with your surgeon!
Find a Spine Unit with a "boot camp" type Rehabilitation Program!!  Its "tough:" but DO NOT GIVE UP!

Spinal abscess?: I would recommend getting seen in the ER in case this is an infection in the spine. Sounds serious.

My thoughts: A foot drop is often caused by problems with peroneal nerve, occasionally proximally affecting sciatic nerve, and rather frequently due to L-5 nerve root compression.  First, the cause must be confirmed, then, the treatment is based upon reversing or compensating for the cause.  An AFO splint may be of temporary value.  ?Concierge appt.?

Drop Foot: Drop foot is a neuromuscular issue....And is usually related to a medical condition or nerve impingement. An MRI is not definitive for drop foot.....See someone who treats drop foot...And get a complete workup. Only then will you know the outcome.

hello dr, due a car crash 5 months ago, my wife had fractures in the right side of pelvic bone and at the right leg. since then she has been suffering of drop foot with no sensation at the foot. we did two emgs with little improvements. please guide?

: It is likely that peroneal nerve was injured or severed at time of motor vehicle accident.  The EMG should provide severity answers.  If there is some nerve preservation, axonal recovery might occur at speed of 0.1 mm/ day.  In meantime have an AFO splint or custom orthotic device to  support the foot.  Stiff cowboy boots might serve a similar purpose.  Rehabilitation steps to help cope, of value.
