Dermatophyte: 2 feet + 1 hand is typical of dermatophyte infection. Maceration of web skin between toes. Scaling of skin along entire soles of feet, often discolored toenails, scaly skin on 1 palm often with discolored nails on 1 hand. This is a fungus. Castellani solution is very useful. Azole creams are helpful [clotrimazole, miconazole, ketoconazole.] Terbinafine is very effective as  cream, excellent orally

had surgery on my foot friday,  and today i cut my hand on a staple.  should i be worried about infection due to my surgery?

Accepted Answer

No.: You are no more likely to get an infection than usual.  There is always a small risk of infection after any surgery.  Keep your knew cut clean and dry, use a little Bacitracin one or twice a day.  The same goes for your surgical incision.  If you have any signs of infection (redness, pus, increased pain, or fever) then call the doc who did your surgery quickly.

Yes, but: Someone can have a stroke with any blood pressure, but isolated tingling in the left foot is more likely a peripheral neuritis and would be a very unusual presenting symptom of a stroke.

my son 3.5 yes old had hand, foot and mouth a month ago which then got infected. the infection has cleared, scabs are gone but he is now left with red marks all over his mouth/chin that turn purple in the cold. will this fade or is this scarring?

: He is very likely to have developed something new.   Hand-foot-mouth disease does not leave "red marks" after recovery.  Have him checked by his PCP.

Antibiotics may take care of it, or it may require surgery to clean out the infection.

Ingrown Toenail: The pain could be from the nail, infection, or both. Most people who try "kitchen surgery" do not remove the entire ingrown portion of the toenail, making it worse. Infection becomes more likely. Clean it with hydrogen peroxide, apply antibiotic ointment, and cover with a bandage. See a podiatrist ASAP to make sure the entire ingrown nail was removed.

Have it evaluated.: With an infection you will need antibiotics.  If the infection is down to bone you may need to have the infected bone removed.  You may need IV antibiotics.  You may also benefit with hyperbaric oxygen treatment.  Have your foot evaluated by a professional and get the appropriate treatment.

Paronychia/Onychia: It sounds like you have an infection.  Most likely, a paronychia/onychia, which is an infected ingrown toenail, the most common cause of toe infections.  If you are Diabetic or in any way immune-compromised, get to a doctor immediately.  If you are not, the infection could still be serious, and you should seek attention ASAP.
