Consult with a doc: Consulting with a sports medicine/orthopedic doctor could give you a head start to both diagnosis and treatment. Tendonitis and cartilage problems would be at the top of the list as the cause of your symptoms. For now, rest from any aggravating activities and ice the area for 20 minutes 2-4 times/day. sudden back of knee pain feels stiff/swollen after squatting/sitting, goes away just was fast. no injury. no warmth/bruising. days with no pain then comes back. research seems symptoms like bakers cyst, bursitis. hope no dvt since pain isn't constant?

Popliteal pain: You did mention many of the significant possibilities . May also be due to meniscus tear, tendinosis. Since there is concern for DVT, and especially if you are on birth control pills would get ultrasound- that can evaluate for DVT and Baker's cyst, effusion( fluid)  For meniscus tear,  tendinosis  need MRI.   Follow up with  MD

Take it easy!: If you fell and landed on that same knee, it is  still healing. Since you can do most things without pain, it&#x27;s likely not a serious injury but it is still injured. Give it another week to finish healing, &amp; if you still have pain then get seen to see if there&#x27;s more extensive damage to your knee. For now, if an activity hurts, don&#x27;t do it. Pain means you are aggravating the injury delaying healing

Ugly squats hurt: Sorry, that title seems harsh, but more than likely, when one has knee pain when squatting or lunging, it is due to poor form.  The exercise must be done properly, with your weight shifted to the rear of the feet.  When you bend the knees, the knees should be directly above the ankles, not in front of them (or to the right or left), and do not bend the knees past 90 degrees.

Squats knee pain: Pain from squats. Rule out arthritic changes of knees, form, and the relationship of the knee/hip/ankle. Consider temporarily stopping activities that are causing you discomfort. If you don’t want to stop all physical activity, consider cross-training that isn’t as tough on the joint. Consider other exercise:swimming aqua aerobics aqua jogging cycling. PFPS: You may have what we call patellafemoral pain syndrome.  If you get checked out by ortho/sports med you may need pt. If you have pain with stairs, standing up from a seated position, squatting, kneeling all around the knee cap this seems what it could be.
Have it looked at, you want to get pt. Exercises are terminal knee extensions, one legged squats (no wts), and isometrics.

It could  be a problem with tracking of the patella - the kneecap. It could be a cartilage  problem. It could  be a conditioning problem. It could be a tendon problem. It  could be a bursitis problem you need an evaluation to clarify your problem.
