Copd: The findings suggest airway changes from smoking. Did you also have a history of asthma which can contribute to these findings? The best thing you can do to avoid worsening of the COPD is to stop smoking entirely and avoid air pollution in general. If you have pulmonary symptoms, i suggest you have an evaluation by a pulmonologist.

Obstructed airways: I think context would be helpful in order to answer this question satisfactorily.  Air trapping is a symptom or sign of obstructed airways where the air has an easier time getting in than out.  Conditions like COPD, Emphysema and Asthma are the usual causes and can be seen on xray as flattening of the diaphragm and on spirometry as a increased Functional Residual Capacity.  Other causes are rare.

Air trapping.: Air trapping is found in people with COPD wherein they chronically breathe in more air than they release, expanding the lungs and making breathing inefficient.  Air swallowing happens with anxiety.

: I've seen many patients with small airways disease who had given up smoking and never developed COPD, but gave up smoking at a relatively early age and only smoked for several years.

: How does  any test apply to me? To answer that it should be understood that tests results are taken into account with the things the patients, says, the examination, lab tests, and all other diagnostic tests. This may be a less common lung issue, COPD is possible but seems less likely. Speak to your doctor

Cannot compare: They are two different medications- Flovent is steroid intended for long term benefit, pro air is albuterol intended for short term benefit. There are studies conducted, in which they show that Flovent is slightly better than pro air.

Sometimes: Patients with advanced COPD can "trap" air in their lungs which is uncomfortable and leads to a variety of symptoms, ...Shortness of breath chest pain, wheezing.

But, without any further information as to her condition, where she is, what other medications she is on and without any of her vital signs it is impossible to guess.  I think that your medical team are providing for her appropriately and getting you ready for this loss.
