I had a uti treated me with macrobid. if i have urethritis caused after. does macrobid work on that problem. i was reading different antibiotics work on the urethra. also why doesnt a urine test detect urethra issues bacteria. do i need a swab test?

A urine specimen with culture and sensitivities done will give you the appropriate antibiotic to use whether you have cystitis or urethritis. Good Luck

I assume a sexually transmitted disease is not an issue. Nonbacterial causes of urethritis can be caused by viral infections,allergic reactions,excessive vaginal dryness or trauma to the urethra. Routine cultures will be negative in these conditions. At least in males certain bacteria are very difficult to culture. If you have ongoing urethral symptoms, I recommend consulting a female urologist.
