A member asked:

What std's can be detected by a pap smear? how long does it take for results ? does pap smear show yeast bacterial vaginosis as well ? hiv ? uti?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: PAP smear is not designed to test for STDs. However it may reveal, herpes, HPV, trichhomonas, yeast and bacterial vaginosis. PAP results may a take a couple of weeks. Not finding these in a PAP smear does not exclude these infections. PAP does not reveal HIV. If you have a concern, you should see a doctor and get specific tests for the particular infection in question. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
