A member asked:

I have thin stool occasionally and pain in the right lumbar region. blood in stool sometimes. went to doctor for bleeding and was told is anal fissure?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Confusing question: An anal fissure is either evident on physical exam or suspected by the bright red blood that coats the stool as it exits. Blood from higher in the intestines has time to break down and begin to darken or gel.Bleeding from the esophagus or stomach would be partially digested by acid and enzymes and be black or coffee ground in appearan I can't put together the issue of lumbar pain and bloody stool.
