White blood cells: Leukocytes is the fancy term for white blood cells. Leukocytes can be present when there is inflammation or other immune system response even if there is no evidence of infection. This could be because the infection is not detected (i.E virus not tested for) or it is not an infection but some other cause of inflammation (injury, autoimmune, etc.).
