Currently have dx of diverticulitis. had blood work and urine culture done. blood work is normal and shows no infection but urine shows leukocyte level at 25. currently on flagyl and cefdinir. what reason would there be elevated leukocytes?

High leukocytes in the urine is likely from the bladder reaction due to the close proximity of the diverticulitis and the bladder. Without diverticulis, sterile pyuria (pyuria = high leukocyte counts in the urine & sterile = negative urine culture) can be present in interstitial cystitis or interstitial nephritis. Take care.
