A member asked:

How does a doctor decide what dose of synthroid (thyroxine) to give a patient?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Follow TSH: The average dose is about 125 mcg/day. But there is a lot of variation. Bigger people need more. Older people less. The TSH is followed to guide the dose. If the dose is too low, the TSH will be too high.
