A member asked:

I've been told if my thyroxine levels are high or low from my blood test then i can't have my rhinoplasty done, can my doctor not give consent anyway?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid first: If you have an abnormality of thyroid function, that needs to be addressed anyway. Not treating the thyroid abnormality would increase the risk of surgery. It is not for your doctor to give consent. You have to give consent but the doctor performing the surgery may decline if there is unnecessary risk due to thyroid abnormality. For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. Practice safe sex. Get HPV vaccine.
