Well...: Any urinary catheter, whether in the urethra, through the abdominal wall (as in your case with an sp tube), or into the kidney via the back (a pcn), are pieces of plastic that connect the outside world (where bacteria live) with the inside world of your urinary tract. They act like highways for bacteria to access your body, and, unfortunately, infections are common with all of them.
