Prosthodontist : A prosthodontist or an oral surgeon or general dentist trained in TMJ can help. You didn't say what kind of pain you are having, or what started the pain. Trauma? Limited opening? Stress? Headaches? Grinding? These are some of the factors that can cause TMJ pain.

TMJoint pain: While some dentists advertise that they are 'specialists' in this area, it merely means that they devote more of their practice to tmd\tmj diagnosis & treatment. You have to research recommended dentists (gd, prosthodontist, oral surgeon, orthodontist) with extensive training and experience treating these issues. Palliative treatment: soft foods, nsaids, hot compresses, ng? Get a consult.

A few ideas.: Depends on symptoms, and cause of symptoms. 3 signs of TMJ dysfunction: joint noises, joint pain & limited oral opening. Self treat with soft diet, jaw exercises, massage, heat/cold, OTC pain meds. A splint or physical therapy would be next. Occasionally muscle relaxants, biofeedback. Xrays are done for diagnosis. Surgery usually reserved for serious symptoms not responsive to other treatments.
