Who is treating you?: Pain killers do not solve TMJ disorders. You need to see a dentist who can evaluate your teeth, bite, and joint to determine what may be contributing to your pain and what treatment will alleviate your symptoms. Please call for an appointment ASAP

See an OFP: Orofacial Pain provides diagnosis and management of pain in the TMJ, head, face, mouth, as well as, associated headaches and neck pain. They are the experts in this field. Good luck.

Short term: You can take ibuprofen 800 mg up to 3 times a day but I would not suggest taking this longer than 2-3 weeks at this dose. Warm compresses, acupuncture and physical therapy may also help with the pain.

No Narcotics!!: Don't take narcotics for chronic condition like TMJ. See a TMJ specialist for advice/treatment. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
