Yes and No: Ladies for some reason you seem to have a rebound to narcotics. These drugs may not help pain but make it worse. So how do you manage your pain. This is the pain management in recovery for open heart surgery. 3 tabs of 200mg Motrin and one 500mg tylenol (acetaminophen) every 6 hours. No more no less. It works in dental pain very well and hopefully for you too. My best to you.

Yes: Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and should help to reduce swelling and discomfort. You may need to see an oral surgeon to xray the tm joints for arthritis or damage as well.

No Narcotics: Narcotics should not be used for TMJ problems. See a TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.

Yes, you can: However, if you rely on painkillers or other not a definitive treatment or if your TMJ goes untreated it can worsen. For this reason, if you suffer from TMJ , you shouldn’t delay a diagnosis and you should find treatment from an experienced Orofacial Pain specialist.
