How scientifically-based do you think weight watchers is? it calculates points based on protein, fat, carbs, fiber. fruits/vegs have no points.

Close enough: As a former weight watcher's member, i calculated that one point is roughly equal to 50 calories, so staying within the number of points allotted will keep your calorie count low enough to achieve goal slowly but eventually.
