A member asked:

Does breathing into a paper bag really help panic and hyperventilation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: If not for the "psychological" benefit, breathing into and out of a closed paper bag will allow carbon dioxide to accumulate in the arterial blood, thus enhancing blood flow to the brain. Theoretically, this could reduce the chance of a fainting spell. Would not recommend doing it for too long though.
