Nerve injury: Sometimes, during the birth, babies can get some damage to the facial nerve (or others). This can cause one side of the face to appear to droop. Most of the time, this is temporary and improves with time. Your doctor will watch it closely.

Possible palsy: A facial nerve palsy may produce somewhat asymmetrical facial expressions (as during crying) and can often be quite subtle. That can sometimes be triggered during the birth process, if for example the nerve is compressed on the side of the face during passage through the birth canal or by an instrument (r.G., forceps). This will usually resolve in time, but it should be followed.
