Was taking pictures of my newborn and phone slide forward and landed on to the side of his head right where the sphenoidal fontanelle is. he started to cry but then stopped. should i be worried that it hurt him?

The fontanelle is delicate, but if not swollen,sunken or red, there is less likelihood of soft tissue injury. Watch for signs of change in behavior, lethargy and fever.Please follow up.

If the kid returned immediately to their normal activities this did no harm. I wouldn't give it another thought, except of course to keep objects from falling on baby.
