Metabolism: It becomes more difficult to maintain our weight as we get older due to a slower metabolism. Declining testosterone also does us in. There was an interesting piece this week on the role of declining estrogen in men leading to weight gain as we get older as well. We are also more sensitive to salt, so some of that may be water weight.

Time: Every year we lose a little more muscle. The amount of muscle we have controls our metabolism. As a result, we have to compensate with more exercise, less food, or changing your workout to build more muscle.
