Petechiae: Petechiae happens due to platelet dysfunction- low platelet level. Very importantly is to find the cause. In children majority that happens following an infection, - could be autoimmune, medicine, malignancy etc. So if your pedis does not know what to do perhaps your baby can be seen by a pediatric hematologist to help. Take care

Platelet count?: Petechiae occur when platelets are low, or with vasculitis. You do not mention if the patient had low platelets. Wiskott aldrich syndrome (was) is an x-linked genetic condition where males have low platelets, immune deficiencies with frequent otitis media, and increased risk of lymphoid cancer. X-linked thrombocytopenia is a mutation in was gene that doesn't cause cancer or frequent infections.
