What exactly is a breast lift?

Reposition, Reshape: The breast skin is temporarily peeled away from the underlying breast, usually leaving the nipple and areola attached. The breast tissue is reshaped and repositioned. The skin is redraped over the breast tissue and excess skin is removed. The nipple and areola are sewn into a new, higher position within the skin that remains. The goal is to reposition and reshape the breast.

It is like...: A breast reduction, except only skin is removed, repositioning and reshaping the breast to a more youthful position on the chest wall. You can think of it as keeping the same breast in a smaller container.

Saggy to perky!: A breast lift (mastopexy) involves making normal-sized droopy or sagging breasts (perhaps with nipples that point down, or that point forward but are positioned below the inframammary crease) into youthful, uplifted, perky breasts with nipples that face forward and are above the crease position. Depending on the severity of the loose skin or droop, various incision patterns (scars)can be chosen.

Definition:: Breast lift surgery is surgery that lifts the breast and/or changes the nipple position. There are a variety of actual procedures which usually balance the amount of lifting provided versus the potential for scarring and numbness.

Tightening: Mastopexy or breast lift consists of incising around the areola, removing loose skin from the lower breast and around the areola to tighten the lower breast which raises or lifts the whole breast higher on the chest. The resulting scars should be lollipop shaped, around the areola and down the middle with a small horizontal scar in the crease below the breast. The nipple is never detached.

Elevating Breasts.: The breast lift ( mastopexy) operation serves to raise the position of the breasts and nipple/areola complexes on a woman's chest wall. This operation is generally done by removing skin and thereby tightening up the breast skin envelope. Sometimes, to add additional fullness/volume, breast augmentation surgery is done at the same time.

Mastopexy: A breast lift is to boost the breast up to where natural position should be as well as natural nipple position.

Surgery Options: Options- vertical or "benelli." vertical- incision made around the peri-areolar region and vertically below it down to bottom of breast. Benelli- incision made around the peri-areolar region only. In both versions excess skin is removed and the remaining breast skin tightened.

Breast reshaping: A breast lift doesn't merely lift the breast--it also shapes the breast and often incorporates the use of an implant to help provide not only additional volume but also structure to the breast. Overall, a breast lift generally lifts and shapes tissue, reduces the diameter of the areola, and restores a more youthful appearance to the breast.
