States differ: Some states offer license examinations to master's level psychologists and they may be fully equal or not in terms of job offers. It's a capitalist (supply & demand) world. Also university training may be different than years ago. I have a pH.D. But one of my most skilled colleagues at the clinic i worked for was an older caring, brilliant, b.S. Level worker. Go tell?

Graduate Degrees: Psychology is a doctoral level profession most often, unless you live in a state where licenses are issued to masters-level people with approved training. In most states, however, one must be licensed to be considered for independent practice.

Many states: Including colorado where i practice, license masters level therapists for independent practice. Colorado includes licensed professional counselor (lpc), licensed marriage and family therapist (lmft), and licensed social worker (lsw), among others. See greeleypsychologist.Com/mental_health_p.Xhtml for more details. Also, any university with graduate psychology training can give you more info.

Under supervision: In most states, a master's in psychology is not an independent credential and so the work must be performed under the license of another professional or a facility. A master's in social work in contrast is usually regarded as an independent provider by insurers as long as a standardized test and sanctioned supervision accompanies the degree.

Yes and No: It really depends on the State. Most often Master level psychologists can provide psychotherapy and testing in agencies, hospitals or clinics under the supervision of a doctoral level licensed psychologist. They are restricted from independent practice unless regularly supervised by a Dr. of psychology or psychiatry.

Yes: A masters level licensed mental health counselor can do everything a psychologist can do except psychological testing. If they want tondo testing they need to do it under the supervision of a psychologist. They also can't get a Medicare provider number to bill for services.
