Not for everyone...: Gestalt therapy is considered a phenomenological-existential therapy that focuses on bringing immediate present experience into greater clarity and increasing awareness. The goal is for patients to become aware of what they are doing and how they are doing it, while learning to accept and esteem themselves. It's an excellent approach for less severe problems with effective functioning.

Be careful: One of my supervisors during my psychiatric training was a gestalt therapist. The one thing he stressed to me was that only those therapist who have formal training should use the techniques found in this treatment as it can cause and worsen conditions when incorrectly utilized. I routinely find therapist who say they use gestalt techniques and have no formal training. Check credentials.
