I have been referred to a retina specialist by my ophthalmologist because he saw a depression on my macula, is this serious?

It can be: Since the macula is used for your central vision, any conditions affecting it could cause loss of vision. Your ophthalmologist was correct to refer you to the retinal specialist. Best wishes.

Hard to know: I think you got the word wrong. I don't know what a "depression" in the macula could be, but if your doc saw a macular abnormality you should take the advice and see a retinal specialist.

Depends: Depends on the cause of the nondescript "depression" you have. See the retinal specialist.
