Unclear: Are you a male or a female? Healthtap says you are male, but this is a lab result that typically is only checked in females. In past this was associated with possible increased risk for thrombosis (as it related to increased problems in pregnancy). Recently evidence for this being a problem has waned and many doctors are not longer screening or acting on a positive result.

MTHFR gene: There are several 'mutations' of this gene which affects the ability to convert the vitamin Folic Acid to active form. 2 copies of the bad gene can result in depression and cardiac and muscle problems. Treatment is with a supplement l-methyl folate (folic acid) or deplin.

Controversial: The pathology community is divided over mthfr testing. I'm undecided. A majority of people who take the test will be told they have an 'abnormal' result and are therefore in need of special supplements which they may then be offered by the folks who have done the test. Talk with your own physician and if necessary an authentic genetic counsellor.

Depends: Those with MTHFR who eat lots of raw fruit and veges may not need methylfolate supplementation. Those who do not, may. Lifestyle and diet are big players in health and wellness. Optimizing both will help keep you healthy no matter what your genes are.
