Sorry I: cannot offer more help than this: The "story" is still "OUT" and this gene abnormality has now been blamed for just about EVERYTHING from early heart disease to frequent miscarriages! I would be VERY CAUTIOUS about accepting ANY ADVICE particularly the INTERNET about this "condition" If this is a MAJOR issue consult with a Board Certified GENETICIST! My Opinion only...hope it helps..Good Luck Z

Fasting homocysteine: This is a controversial an evolving issue. Most Obgyns would treat you with Heparin or Lovenox (enoxaparin) with a homozygous MTFHR mutation. The most up to date literature suggests testing a fasting homocysteine level and then only treating those who fail. Personally I base treatment of homozygous carriers on their past history of miscarriage or poor pregnancy outcome and infertility.

Habitual Miscarriage: There is much controversy surrounding this gene and the medical literature doesn't agree. However, personally, I have treated many women who repeatedly miscarry, and can't carry a baby to term, who responded (and carried to term) when treated. One treatment consists of taking daily an aspirin, Vitamin B-12, Vit B-6, and high-dose folic acid. Low-dose heparin is also sometimes used.
