Heart disease: Depending on other conditions you may have and your family history, you are at a greater risk of heart disease. I assume you have adjusted your diet and started exercising. If the numbers remain high and you have other risk factors, you will need to start medications.

Risk from high LDL: Before putting most anyone on medications, we typically offer non-pharmacologic options, assuming you can tolerate risk for short period of time. Therefore, go to http://cvdrisk.Nhlbi.Nih.Gov/calculator.Asp to calculate your 10yr risk. If it's >20%, then your goal LDL is less than 100mg/dl & you'll need drugs to achieve 50% reduction. Diet & exercise can get you 10-15% at most. Risk is 4 mi/stroke.
