Back swelling : Lipomas are benign fatty tissue (sometimes referred to as tumors) that is movable within the fatty layer area. Sometimes these lipomas may envelope a nerve near the area and can compress it if pressed upon or swelling is noted. This compression of the nerve causes the radiating pain you may be describing. However boils or cysts may do the same, you may need that checked out by your doctor.
