I have a lipoma in my back rib area with swelling around that causing pain there, abdomen and side ct, x-ray, and mri show nothing what can this be?

Between muscles?: Lipomas can arise almost anywhere. If there is a mass you feel and the studies don't clearly show it, it may arise in the muscle or between the muscles. Pain results from stretched muscles especially when you use the one involved. Speak to a general surgeon.
