Depends: Depends on the kind of skin you have, the nature & location of the surgery. If you have dark skin the area of surgery may get darker than the surrounding skin. Ask your dr about protecting from sun. You may also want to use a retinoic acid cream.

Avoid sun: To minimize color changes in your scar you should protect the area from the sun for a full year. I would use a sun block with zinc or titanium oxide in it on a daily basis and as much as possible stay out of the direct sun. This is a good idea for facial skin in general as sun can cause skin cancers and wrinkles.
