I was in a car wreck &i have a facial cut that got stitched up. i get stitches removed in about 3 days. what can i do to prevent a big red scar?

Were the stitches : Done by a plastic surgeon. If they were, they probably did all they could to make it look the best possible. Often the er will call in a plastic surgeon if the stitches are on the face. (i had a cut once from a fall & it does not show at all, but it was done by a specialist.) if not ask your doctors and they will tell you what to do.

Avoid the sun: Until the redness is gone. Scars mature for 6-12 months or more. The redness may maximize at about 6 weeks post-injury when the blood flow is maximal. The most important thing you can do is to avoid sunburn or suntan until the scar is mature. Use sunscreen with an spf of 15 or more, a hat, and reapply the sunscreen often. Good luck!
