Possibly...: Strep throat is caused by a streptococcal infection of the pharynx, well away from the gum tissue. Most sore throats are not true strep. However, you can develop a strep infection of the gum tissue which could cause swelling. Are you under treatment? If not, you should see your family physician for management of your strep throat and your family dentist for evaluation of your swollen gums.

It can: Strep throat sometimes involves structures in your mouth as well if your gums weren't swollen before then most likely it is from your strep throat if the swollen gums are present long after your strep throat is finished then see a periodontist to evaluate it.
