More likely: that your throat infection is one of the viruses that can cause lesions on the gums as well. I would go to your doc for an examination to make a diagnosis.

Strep throat: Generally strep throat causes a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes, and should not cause gum irritation. However, you may experience gum irritation from a lack of oral intake and mouth dryness from not taking in adequate fluids because of throat pain. I recommend salt water gargles to all my patients with pharyngitis (sore throat). This will also help your gums.
