Possibly: Umbilical hernias in children do have the potential to resolve as the child grows. Usually this doesn't happen until age 4 or 5. They are only repaired if they become symptomatic (painful) or if they are increasing in size. This hernia needs close observation by your pediatrician. He will be able to refer you to a surgeon for repair when it is necessary.

Agree... possible: Your former answer says it all. Monitor the hernia and follow-up with your pediatrician regularly. One thing to remember is to check the hernia if your child becomes inconsolable. Though rare, the bowels can become "stuck" in the hernia. Again, this is rare but serious so remember to check the hernia if your child is inconsolable.
