Yes: Family history does play a role in the development of atherosclerosis. Best to control the oak factors that you can do something about (smoking, cholesterol, hypertension, and diabetes to name a few).

Yes: Your risks are higher with your family history, but not carved in stone. Like the other answer said, control your risks with appropriate behaviors. Healthy eating, weight reduction, exercise, blood pressure control, stress reduction, and make sure you see a physician who can check your cholesterol and metabolic factors that can influence your risks.
