Swelling, bruising: Be sure you are having injections done by a well qualified provider. Injections in the lip can cause some swelling and bruising but that is usually minor and serious problems are rare. These injections can be painful so ask for local anesthetic. Also ask that only the minimum amount be used as it is possible to over fill the lips.

Temporary: If you like the effect the main downside is that it is temporary. Request a lip block before the Restylane (dermal fillers) is injected for a more comfortable experience. It is possible to have lumpiness or asymmetry but an experienced injector can usually avoid these issues.

Doesn't last long: It is not unusual for the product to be gone after a couple months. It tends to stay longer on subsequent injections.

Risks for Restylane (dermal fillers): The risks of Restylane (dermal fillers) are few, and many patients find it a great product to augment the lips. It lasts 8-12 months, and will require re-injection. Immediate side effects may include swelling and bruising. Other more rare reactions could occur. Lip augmentation is a great treatment, but requires skill to keep a balanced natural result. Seek a qualified facial plastic surgeon.

Restylane (dermal fillers) Lip: Most plastic surgeons and dermatologists prefer hyaluronic acid fillers, such as restylane, (dermal fillers) for lip injection or augmentation. Office treatments are quick and require minimal local anesthesia. Side effects are temporary and may include swelling, bruising, numbness, or nodules. These side effects typically resolve after one day.
