A member asked:

Which of the lipids tests (tg, hdl, ldl, total choles) are affected by fasting, and which would be the same whether or not one fasted overnight?

Good question: Trig- very meal dependent ldl- meal dependent hdl- meal independent advanced lipid testing further fragments these components and preforms direct measurements, for difficult to prescribe for pt's.

TG and LDL: Tg is high in non-fasting state. Ldl is a calculated value that takes tg levels into account and high tg would give erroneously high LDL levels. Total cholesterol may also be higher.
