What tooth are molar bands fir braces typically placed on? is the placement painful?

Molar bands: Bands if placed at all usually are placed on the first molars. Frequently spacers (little rubber bands are placed in the contact areas in front of and behind the first molars. This creates space to allow the molar band to be fitted and then cemented. The actual placement should not be painful but the gum tissue will be irritated. Take some Ibuprofen before placement. Good luck with the braces!

6 yr molars painless: Usually upper and lower 6 year molars (#3, 14, 19, 30 or 6's in the states or #16, 26, 36, 46 in europe). Often 12 year molars are banded as well depending on the age of the patient. (#2, 15, 18, 31 or 7's in the states or 16, 26, 36, 46 in europe) placement is often preceded by spacers three days in advance and is relatively painless.
