Hallux Rigidus: Osteoarthritis or crystal arthropathy can cause podagra or great toe pain. But a hallux rigidus~limitus bio mechanical jamming of the metatarsophalangeal joint can freeze up joint motion which will hurt when forcibly flexed or extended. Have a podiatry check up with radiographs.
